Are you ready to hit the open road and embark on an adventure through Australia in a caravan? Whether you're a seasoned traveller or a first-timer or adventure for the full time caravan life, life on the road can present unique challenges when it comes to relationships. From close quarters to long stretches of highway, maintaining harmony on the journey is essential to ensuring a memorable and enjoyable experience.
In this blog post, we will explore some tips and tricks for navigating relationships in a caravan while travelling across the stunning landscapes of Australia. These are a few things that have helped us being full time on the road.
⭐️Make time for just you and your partner.
Whether thats bedding kids down and having a dinner for 2 outside, a morning walk before kids wake. Or a morning coffee outside to just chat you 2.
⭐️Knowing when you need alone time and being able to say to your other half I need 15 mins to myself. Going for a walk or food shopping on your own, fine that alone time when needed.
⭐️Accepting things don’t go to plan and it’s ok to have a rest day or movie day in the van. The travelling life can be full on and all about the next spot or what is the weather doing, it can be excusing.
⭐️ Filling our kids cups up - aim to have 10-15 mins one on one time with each of our kids (doing something they like a walk, reading a book or playing Lego)
⭐️ Moving days can be stressful especially with kids. We found packing up the night before (mats, toys, awnings, bbq) can make the morning less stressful.
⭐️ Make that detour or stop, it’s all about the experience. It can very easily get overwhelming and become a strict travel schedule. Really surrendering to the nomad life is what it’s all about.
⭐️ Find some like minded travel families. It’s great to vent and chat stories. Great for the kids and for you.
⭐️ Accept 95% of the time your van is not going to be Instagram worthy. For us 6 people, 2 dogs and a cat in is a lot of bodies in a 25ft van. Our van is full of sand, dishes in the sink and toys on the floor.
⭐️ Get the kids involved - setting up, packing down, finding places to go. It makes it more exciting for them.
⭐️ Mental Health is just as important at home and on the road. Have those conversations. Find your community. It’s not all roses on the road and sometimes you can get a bad road. Be ok to ask for help.
